How to pick the right production line to produce soft pellet feed that abalone love?

Shrimp have very different diets at different growth stages. Juvenile shrimp are small and thrive on small pellets (0.8-1.2 mm in diameter) that can remain suspended in the water for an extended period to ensure easy access. Adult shrimp, on the other hand, require larger pellets (2-3 mm in diameter) that don't easily disperse in the water. If the production line cannot produce suitable pellets, juvenile shrimp will be unable to eat them due to their size, while adult shrimp will experience excessive feed dissolution and waste, and the process will also pollute the water.

Key Selection Factors

The machine must be able to produce thin, soft feed flakes.

1. Pelletizer: A specialized aquaculture pelletizer must be selected. This type of machine has a flat die, allowing for thickness adjustment to ensure the feed thickness is precisely between 0.5 and 1 mm. The firmness of the pressed feed must also be appropriate; measured with a specialized hardness tester, it should not exceed 2 kg. Never use a regular ring die pelletizer, as those produce cylindrical pellets that abalone cannot eat.

2. Cutting Equipment: A precision slicer is required. The cut feed should be 3 to 5 cm in length, with an error margin of no more than 0.2 cm. Furthermore, the slicer must be well-matched to the conveyor belt; otherwise, the feed will be uneven in length, making it difficult for abalone to eat.

The secret to preventing feed from becoming soggy: Mixing and adding additives.

1. Mixing System: Choose a horizontal twin-shaft conditioner, allowing the feed ingredients to be thoroughly mixed for 100 to 120 seconds, with the temperature controlled between 65 and 75°C. This allows the starch in the raw materials to fully gelatinize, much like cooking porridge, naturally binding the feed together. A gelatinization rate of over 90% is necessary.

2. Additive System: A liquid addition pump is required, with a dosing precision of 0.1% to accurately add binders like alginate. Manual dosing easily results in uneven adhesion, and the feed disperses quickly in water.

Choose a production line based on the scale of aquaculture for cost-effectiveness and practicality.

1. Small-scale abalone hatcheries (under 100,000): A micro-flake feed production line is suitable, producing 0.1 to 0.3 tons of feed per hour. The equipment cost is approximately 200,000 to 300,000 yuan. This small-scale equipment produces 20 kg of feed at a time, enough for 3 to 5 days, making it particularly suitable for small-scale farming.

2. FLarge-scale abalone farms (over 500,000): A medium-sized automated production line is recommended, with a capacity of 0.8 to 1.2 tons per hour. The equipment investment is 600,000 to 800,000 yuan. This production line can automatically batch, shape, cool, and dry feed. It also comes equipped with a seawater immersion testing device, allowing for random sampling and testing of the water resistance of each batch of feed to ensure consistent quality.
