Is the feed spraying function not working properly on my fish food machine?

Many people only focus on the main extruder, neglecting auxiliary equipment such as the feeder and conditioner. If the feeder jams or the conditioner is not properly adjusted, the raw materials cannot enter the main unit stably, which will also lead to material spraying. In fact, if the auxiliary system has a problem, repairing only the main unit is useless.

Why is the feeder spraying material?

1. Feeder jamming: Large impurities (such as plastic bags or stones) are mixed in with the feeder, jamming the feed screw. The material feeds in intermittently – when the feed is interrupted, the screw spins freely, and after jamming, it suddenly opens, causing the material to rush into the main unit and spray out of the barrel.
Solution: Stop the machine, disassemble the feeder, and clean out the impurities; install a screen (5mm aperture) at the feeder inlet to block large impurities; regularly check the feed screw and replace it if it is worn.

2.Unstable feeder speed: The feeder's frequency converter is faulty, causing the speed to fluctuate wildly (e.g., set to 30 rpm, but actually fluctuating between 10-50 rpm). The material feed is uneven, with excessive material being sprayed out and insufficient material being fed while the feeder idles. Solution: Have an electrician repair the frequency converter or replace it with a new one (with power matching the feeder, e.g., a 1kW feeder with a 1kW frequency converter). After repair, test the speed to ensure it is stable.

Why is the conditioner spraying material?

1. Conditioner not rotating/rotating too slowly: The conditioner adds steam to the raw materials and mixes them evenly. If it doesn't rotate, the raw materials and steam won't mix properly, resulting in some materials being wet and others dry. Dry materials will slip and spray out in the main unit, while wet materials will stick and spray out.
Solution: Check if the conditioner motor is faulty; repair it if necessary. If the rotation speed is slow, increase the conditioner speed (e.g., from 20 rpm to 30 rpm) to ensure thorough mixing of the raw materials and steam.

2. Irregular steam supply: If the steam supply fluctuates during conditioning (e.g., sometimes too high, sometimes too low), the moisture content of the raw materials will vary, causing them to either stick or become loose upon entering the main unit, both resulting in spraying.
Solution: Install a pressure valve on the steam pipe to stabilize the pressure at 0.4-0.5 MPa. During conditioning, slowly open the steam valve, observing the state of the raw materials. If they are too wet, close the valve slightly; if they are too dry, open it wider to maintain uniform moisture in the raw materials.

Tips for checking auxiliary systems

Before each startup, turn on the feeder and conditioner first to see if the raw materials can enter the main unit evenly and stably, without jamming or uneven feeding. Then start the main unit for production. This can avoid many material spraying problems.
