Why is the production rate of my fish feed machine lower than usual?

The fish feed mill, which originally produced 1.2 tons of aquatic feed per hour, has recently seen its output continuously decline to below 0.8 tons per hour, with fluctuations exceeding 20%. This not only prevents timely order delivery but also causes a surge in energy consumption per unit (from 15 kWh to 22 kWh per ton of feed), increasing production costs by more than 15%. If the root cause of the output decline is not identified, it will severely squeeze the feed mill's profit margins.

Cause and Solution

1.Core Component Wear (Main Cause of Output Decline)

Causes: Screw thread wear (thread thickness reduction exceeding 1.5mm), resulting in decreased raw material feeding capacity, insufficient raw material filling in the barrel, and reduced extrusion volume per unit time; die head orifice wear (orifice diameter enlargement exceeding 0.8mm), or die orifice blockage rate exceeding 20%, reducing raw material throughput efficiency; pressure roller surface wear (texture depth reduction exceeding 0.5mm), leading to reduced extrusion and conveying efficiency of raw materials. These three factors combined cause a decline in extruder capacity.

Solutions: Regularly inspect the screw, die head, and pressure roller. Use an ultrasonic thickness gauge to check the screw thread thickness and replace screws with excessive wear promptly. Clean the die orifices using specialized unclogging tools. Repair or replace severely worn dies with laser cladding. Perform surface treatment on pressure rollers or replace them with new rollers.Establish a life cycle record for key components and prepare inventory in advance according to production duration to avoid sudden downtime.

2. Raw Material Characteristic Variations (Easily Overlooked Hidden Factors)

Causes: Fluctuations in raw material moisture content (exceeding the standard range of 12%-14%). Excessive moisture content leads to poor material flowability within the barrel, reducing expansion efficiency; insufficient moisture content easily generates dust, causing screw slippage. Large differences in raw material particle size (e.g., excessively fine fishmeal or excessively large corn kernels) affect material mixing uniformity and conveying stability. Abnormal oil addition (exceeding the formula standard by 5%) causes material to adhere to the screw and barrel inner wall, hindering material conveying.

Solutions: Establish a raw material incoming inspection system, using a rapid moisture analyzer to monitor moisture in real time; pre-crush and screen different raw materials to ensure particle size meets process requirements; install a quantitative oil addition device to strictly control the addition ratio.

3.Process Parameter Deviation (Key Variable Affecting Capacity)

Causes: Improper screw speed setting (below 80% of rated speed), resulting in excessive material residence time in the barrel, leading to over-gelatinization and decreased flowability; abnormal temperature control (zone 1 temperature below 100℃ or zone 3 temperature above 160℃), affecting material expansion and conveying resistance; unstable feeding speed (fluctuations exceeding 15%), easily causing material accumulation or idling in the barrel.

Solutions: Optimize the combination of screw speed, temperature, and feeding speed using orthogonal experimental design based on raw material characteristics and product specifications; install temperature sensors and speed monitoring devices to collect data in real time and upload it to the PLC control system for automatic adjustment; establish standardized operating procedures requiring operators to record process parameters every 30 minutes and adjust promptly upon detection of abnormalities.
