Will regular upkeep of equipment reduce the chances of malfunctions in feed pellet production lines?
Leave a message
Some feed mills think, "If the equipment isn't broken, you don't need to worry about it." As a result, after a year or two, the pellet mill bearings suddenly seize up, and the crusher motor burns out, requiring repairs that take several days and disrupt production. Just like a car needs regular maintenance, production line equipment also needs timely upkeep to ensure smooth operation.
Core equipment maintenance methods
Daily Maintenance: Simple Cleaning and Lubrication
After all equipment is shut down, clean the surface and feed inlet of dust (use compressed air to blow it out; do not use water to wash the electrical parts). Excessive dust buildup will enter the equipment and wear down parts. Add a small amount of lubricating oil (use the manufacturer's recommended type; do not add too much, otherwise dust will stick) to the pellet mill's pressure roller bearings and the elevator chain once a day to ensure smoother rotation.
Weekly Maintenance: Inspection and Adjustment of Key Components
Disassemble and clean the mixer's discharge port (it is prone to material sticking inside, especially high-oil feed). Scrape it clean with a scraper and then wipe it with a damp cloth (sticky material will cause uneven mixing and mold growth). Check the crusher's drive belt; if it is loose (for example, it can be pressed down significantly by hand), tighten the motor's fixing screws (a loose belt will slip, resulting in low crushing efficiency and wear).
Monthly Maintenance: Thorough Inspection of Key Components
Open the pellet mill's gearbox and check the lubricating oil level (it should be in the middle of the oil level gauge; add the same type of gear oil if necessary). If the oil is black or dirty, replace it all (dirty oil will damage the gears and cause transmission failure).
Check the cooler's dampers for any obstructions (turn them by hand to see if they open and close freely). Obstructed dampers will cause uneven airflow and poor cooling. Clean the dust and debris from the dampers.
