Are dry extruders and wet feed pellet extruders beginner-friendly?

Dry-feed extruders are incredibly beginner-friendly, requiring only three steps to operate: pour dry raw material into the feed inlet, turn on the power, and adjust the cutter speed to control particle length. They lack complex parameters and don't require attention to temperature or humidity; as long as the raw material is dry and fine enough, it will produce pellets immediately. Even first-time users can master it by reading the instruction manual once, making it particularly suitable for beginners who keep a few aquariums or small ponds for fishkeeping.

Wet-feed extruders are slightly more complex to operate. First, the steam or water volume must be adjusted to control the raw material's moisture content between 16% and 18%. The temperature gauge must also be monitored to ensure the machine cavity temperature is around 85℃. Too much steam will make the raw material too wet, causing it to stick to the die and fail to exit; too little steam will result in loose pellets. Beginners may need two or three tries to find the right parameters initially, but once familiar, operation becomes easy. Many modern wet extruders also have automatic control systems that automatically adjust temperature and humidity, saving considerable time and effort.

There are also emergency handling procedures. If a dry feed mill jams, simply disconnect the power and clean out the dry feed. If a wet feed mill jams, it's mostly because the feed is too wet and clumps together. You need to disassemble the machine chamber and rinse it with warm water, which is a bit more troublesome than with a dry feed mill. If you don't have time to study the equipment regularly, choose a dry feed mill. If you want to produce high-quality feed and are willing to spend some time learning, a wet feed mill is more worthwhile.
