How to balance cost and efficiency between two types of extruded feed extruders?

First, consider the purchase cost: Dry-feed extruders have a simpler structure, lacking a steam system and water supply device, and are 30%-40% cheaper than wet extruders. For example, a small household dry extruder can be bought for just over 1,000 yuan, while a wet extruder costs over 2,000 yuan; for large production lines, a dry extruder can save tens of thousands of yuan. For small-scale farmers just starting out with a tight budget, a dry extruder is a good entry-level choice.

Next, consider the operating costs: Dry extruders consume slightly more electricity because they rely entirely on screw friction for heat generation, resulting in a higher motor load; while wet extruders require a steam generator, the high efficiency of steam heating actually leads to lower overall energy consumption. Furthermore, wet extruders process materials faster, producing 20%-30% more material per hour than a dry extruder of the same power, making them more cost-effective in the long run. For example, processing 1000 catties of material per day, a wet extruder uses 2 kWh less electricity than a dry extruder and can finish an hour earlier.

Maintenance costs also differ: dry mills have dry material inside the chamber, making them less prone to scaling and easy to clean, requiring only a weekly wipe; wet mills, on the other hand, have damp material that easily sticks to the chamber and die holes, requiring cleaning with a brush after each use to prevent clogging the next time the machine is turned on. However, the wear parts of wet mills (such as the pressure rollers) wear out more slowly because the material is soft and there is less friction, which actually reduces the cost of replacing parts.
