Does the moisture content of feed pellet extruder affect the playability of ornamental fish?

1. The Importance of Moisture Content in Ornamental Fish Feed Extruders: Key to Water Quality and Color Enhancement: Ornamental fish live in small bodies of water. If the feed makes the water cloudy, the water quality deteriorates, the fish become susceptible to disease, and their scales lose their luster. Too much moisture causes the feed to crumble into particles in the water, immediately making the water cloudy; too little moisture makes the feed dry and light, resulting in a lot of fine powder being shed when the fish peck at it, which is not only wasteful but also pollutes the water. Moreover, the right moisture content allows the color-enhancing components (spirulina powder, astaxanthin) in the feed to be firmly locked in the pellets, resulting in more vibrant colors and greatly enhanced ornamental value for the fish.
2. Optimal Moisture Ranges for Different Ingredients: Precise Moisture Requires Smaller Particles: Ornamental fish feed ingredients are fine, requiring stricter moisture control. The core ingredients, spirulina powder and astaxanthin powder, have a moisture content of 8%-10%. If too wet, they will clump together and cannot be mixed evenly with other ingredients; fine grain powders (corn flour, wheat flour) should have a moisture content of 13%-15%, able to clump together when squeezed but crumble easily when released; a small amount of binder (starch) should have a moisture content of 12%-14%. The moisture content of the mixed raw materials should be controlled between 15% and 16%. Within this range, the extruded particles will be small and round, with a diameter of 0.5-1 mm, perfectly suited to the small mouths of ornamental fish. They will not disintegrate or cloud the water even after soaking for 1-2 hours.
3. Moisture Measurement and Control: Fine materials require even more careful control. Use a "capacitive moisture meter" specifically designed for fine powder raw materials. Fill the instrument's feed trough with the raw material and press the switch to get the result. During control, fine powder raw materials are prone to absorbing moisture, so store them in an airtight container and only take out the amount needed each time. If the raw material is too dry, spray a very small amount of purified water with a spray bottle, stirring with a small spoon while spraying to avoid localized over-wetting. If it is too wet, place it on a dry plate in a ventilated area to air dry for 30 minutes, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent the color-enhancing components from losing their effectiveness. When testing, place the particles in the fish tank and observe for 2 hours. If the water is clear and the particles remain intact, the moisture content is acceptable.
