How to achieve batch feeding through an extruded pellet feed system

Large feed processing plants handle tens or even hundreds of tons of raw materials daily. Manual batch feeding would require many workers and easily lead to inaccurate feeding and low efficiency. This is where fully automated batch feeding comes in handy. It allows for batch feeding of extruded pellet feed machines "without human intervention," automating the entire process from raw material weighing to feeding into the machine. Let's take a look at the specific operating procedures.
Operating Steps
- The first step is to set up a fully automated feeding system. First, a "quantitative conveyor belt" needs to be installed between the raw material warehouse and the extruded pellet mill. The conveyor belt speed is adjustable and can be linked to an electronic scale. Then, an "automatic feeder" is installed at the beginning of the conveyor belt to deliver the raw materials from the warehouse onto the conveyor belt. At the end of the conveyor belt (above the feed inlet of the extruded pellet mill), an "electronic quantitative scale" is installed. The scale can accurately weigh, for example, 100 kg of raw materials at a time, and automatically delivers the weighed material to the machine. Additionally, a PLC control system is needed to connect the feeder, conveyor belt, electronic scale, and extruded pellet mill for unified control.
- The second step is to set the batch feeding parameters. On the PLC control system's operation panel, first input the amount of material to be fed in each batch, for example, setting each batch to 120 kg. Then set the feeding speed, based on the processing capacity of the extruded pellet feed machine. For example, if the machine can process 600 kg of raw material per hour, then set the feeding speed to 600 kg per hour. This way, the conveyor belt speed and the electronic scale's feeding speed will automatically match. Simultaneously, "protection parameters" must be set, such as automatically slowing down the feeding system when the machine current exceeds the rated value to prevent machine overload.
- The third step is to start the system for batch feeding. Press the "Start" button on the PLC control system. The automatic feeder will begin working, delivering the raw material to the conveyor belt, which then transports the material to the electronic quantitative scale. When the electronic scale has weighed the set batch feeding amount (e.g., 120 kg), it will automatically send a signal to stop the feeder and conveyor belt, and simultaneously open the electronic scale's discharge gate, delivering the raw material to the extruded pellet feed machine's inlet. Once all the raw materials have entered the machine, the electronic scale's discharge gate automatically closes, and the feeding machine and conveyor belt start working again to prepare for the next batch of materials. This cycle repeats continuously, achieving continuous batch feeding.
- The fourth step is daily inspection and maintenance. Before each day's use, check whether the parameters of the PLC control system are normal, and whether the electronic scale has been calibrated (this can be tested with standard weights, such as weighing a 10 kg weight, to see if the display is accurate). Also check whether the conveyor belt is misaligned and whether the feeding machine's hopper is damaged. If the electronic scale is found to be inaccurate, calibrate it promptly; if the conveyor belt is misaligned, adjust the rollers at both ends of the conveyor belt to ensure normal belt operation. This ensures the accuracy and stability of fully automatic batch feeding.
