The causes of motor overheating and shutdown need to be investigated from three aspects: electrical, load, and heat dissipation. Electrical system abnormalities are a significant cause. Insufficient power cord diameter leads to excessive voltage drop during transmission, resulting in insufficient actual motor power and overheating; improper settings of the leakage current device or overload protector prevent timely tripping; insufficient lubrication or wear of motor bearings increases frictional resistance, causing overheating. Excessive load is a common cause.
Feeding speed exceeding the motor's rated load (current exceeding the rated value by 110%); excessively viscous raw materials or equipment jamming cause a sudden increase in screw rotation resistance, leading to motor overload operation; transmission system faults (such as overly tight belts or poor gear meshing) increase motor running resistance. Poor heat dissipation should not be ignored. Damaged or clogged cooling fans reduce heat dissipation efficiency; poor ventilation in the production environment prevents timely heat dissipation during high summer temperatures; the motor casing is covered with raw material dust, affecting heat dissipation.
Troubleshooting these types of faults should follow the principle of "safety first, disconnect power before troubleshooting." If the motor overheats, immediately stop the machine and disconnect the power to prevent continued operation from burning out the windings. Allow the motor to cool naturally to room temperature before troubleshooting. Electrical system troubleshooting: Use a multimeter to check the power line voltage and current; replace with a thicker power line if the wire diameter is insufficient; recalibrate the overload protector parameters (trip current set to 1.1 times the rated current); disassemble the motor to inspect the bearings; add lithium-based grease if insufficient, replace bearings if severely worn. Load problem handling: Reduce the feeding speed until the motor current stabilizes at 80%-90% of the rated value; clear material jams from the equipment and optimize raw material characteristics (reduce moisture, improve flowability); adjust the tension of the drive belt (press down 10-15mm is appropriate), and check the gear meshing. Heat dissipation problem resolution: Replace damaged cooling fans and clean dust from the fan and motor housing; install ventilation equipment or air conditioning in the production workshop to ensure the ambient temperature is ≤35℃; regularly clean the motor's heat dissipation channels to prevent dust accumulation.
A real-time monitoring mechanism needs to be established to prevent cat food packing machine motor failures. Install ammeters and thermometers in the motor control cabinet. Operators should record the data every hour. If the current exceeds the rated value or the temperature exceeds 60°C, stop the machine immediately. Check the motor cooling fan and heat dissipation channels daily and clean the dust off the motor casing weekly. Conduct a comprehensive overhaul of the electrical and transmission systems monthly to ensure the equipment is in good operating condition.
