What factors contribute to lower production output in a feed pellet machine?

The pellet machine for feed, which previously produced 1 ton of pellets per hour, has recently seen its output drop to below 0.7 tons per hour, even fluctuating wildly. This not only fails to meet order demand but also leads to increased energy consumption per unit (from 8 kWh to 12 kWh per ton of feed), increasing production costs. If the cause of the output decline is not identified, it will severely impact the feed mill's economic efficiency.

Cause and Solution

1.Core Component Wear (Ring Die, Screw, and Roller)

Causes: Ring die bore wear (hole diameter expansion exceeding 0.5mm), resulting in reduced material density during extrusion and reduced pellet weight per unit time; screw thread wear (thread thickness reduction exceeding 1.5mm), reducing material pushing capacity and insufficient material filling in the barrel; roller surface wear (groove depth reduction exceeding 0.3mm), reducing material extrusion friction and preventing material from passing through the ring die quickly.

Solution: If the ring die is worn, replace it with a new one (preferably a deep-hole, wear-resistant ring die, such as a 4mm diameter ring die with a hole depth of 15mm or greater). If the screw is worn, replace it with a new one (use a nitrided screw with a hardness of HV800 or higher). If the roller is worn, replace the roller cover (use a high-hardness rubber roller cover with a Shore hardness of 75 or higher).

2. Uneven Particle Size of Raw Materials

Cause: The raw material mill screen is damaged (e.g., holes exceeding 5mm in diameter) or the hammers are worn (the hammer blades are blunt). This results in uneven particle size (over 20% of coarse particles exceed 3mm in diameter). Coarse particles experience high extrusion resistance in the die, slowing their passage through the ring die, and affecting production.

Solution: Check the mill screen. If damaged, replace it with a new one (select the screen aperture based on the pellet material requirements; for example, use a 2.5mm aperture screen for Φ4mm pellets). Check the hammers. If the edges are blunt, sharpen them with a grinding wheel or replace them with new ones (ensure the gap between the hammer and the screen is ≤1mm). Add a grading screen after the mill to filter out coarse particles (re-crush them before reuse) to ensure uniform particle size.

3.Improper Process Parameter Settings

Cause: The feed rate is too low (e.g., the feeder speed is only 20 rpm, lower than the equipment's recommended 30 rpm), resulting in insufficient material filling in the barrel and failure to reach the rated output. Alternatively, the ring die temperature is too high (over 90°C), causing excessive gelatinization of the material within the die holes, adhering to the inner wall and blocking the holes (with a blockage rate exceeding 15%), thus affecting material flow efficiency.

Solution: Gradually increase the feeder speed (by 5 rpm at a time, observing the motor current to ensure it does not exceed the rated current) to find the feed rate that achieves the highest output while maintaining a stable current.
