What is the Process of Making Pellets with a pet food pellet machine?

content

The core principle of small-scale pet food making machine pellet production is "simplified equipment and retention of key steps." The process can be simplified to "raw material pretreatment → simple puffing → mixing → pelleting → natural drying and screening." A small home-use or workshop-level machine can be used for the entire setup. The first step, raw material pretreatment, uses a small hammer mill (priced at 1000-3000 yuan) to grind raw materials such as corn and soybean meal to 60-80 mesh. Impurities are removed by manual screening, eliminating the need for complex multi-stage screening equipment. A simple moisture meter is used to test the moisture content, controlling it between 12% and 15%. If too high, spread the mixture out to dry; if too low, spray a small amount of warm water to adjust. Operation is flexible and convenient.

The second step, simple puffing, uses a small home-use dog food making machine (priced at 2000-5000 yuan). These machines are small, easy to operate, and can be powered by a standard household outlet. The ground raw materials are poured into the puffing machine, preheated for 5-10 minutes, and then started. The temperature is set to approximately 120℃, and the screw speed is 300-400 rpm. No complex parameter adjustments are required. After extrusion, cool the raw materials to room temperature. For very small production runs (5-10kg per batch), allow them to cool naturally. For larger runs (20-50kg), use a fan to accelerate cooling and prevent overheating. In small-scale production, the extruder improves pellet quality. If budget is limited, this step can be omitted for ordinary feed pellets, but it is recommended to retain it for pet food and premium feed.

The third step is mixing. Use a small vertical mixer (priced at 2000-5000 yuan), with a capacity of 50-100kg, manual feeding, and automatic discharging. Add raw materials and additives according to the formula ratio, mix for 5-8 minutes, and manually sample to check the uniformity of mixing, ensuring there is no obvious separation of raw materials. If making pet food, add heat-sensitive ingredients such as probiotics and fish oil at this stage, quickly mix evenly, and immediately proceed to the pelleting stage.

The fourth step is pelleting. Use a small floating fish feed machine (priced at 3000-8000 yuan), which occupies only 1-2 square meters and can be operated by one person. Pour the mixed raw materials into the feed inlet, adjust the die orifice diameter and extrusion pressure, and start the equipment to granulate. For the subsequent drying stage, small-scale production can use natural air drying combined with fan drying, saving on dryer investment. Avoid direct sunlight during drying to prevent nutrient loss; dry until the moisture content is below 12%. Finally, manually screen to remove broken particles and complete packaging. This simplified process reduces equipment investment and operational difficulty while ensuring granule quality, making it suitable for small-scale entrepreneurs.
