Signs That Indicate A Small Fish Feed Pellet Extruder Screw Is Worn Out

First, master the simple disassembly steps for the screw of a floating fish feed making machine. Before operation, disconnect the power and stop the machine, allowing it to cool to room temperature (to avoid burns). Then, disassemble the die head (usually secured by bolts, which can be loosened with a wrench), and clean any residual material inside. Next, disassemble the extruder's feed hopper and extrusion chamber housing to remove the screw. The entire process requires no special tools; the basic tool kit provided by the manufacturer can be used, and it takes approximately 30-60 minutes. Note that you should handle the screw and extrusion chamber with care during disassembly to avoid damaging their precision surfaces. Record the installation positions of each component for later reassembly.
Visually inspect the key areas and characteristics of screw wear. After disassembly, first observe the screw ridges (spiral protrusions) of the small fish feed pellet making machine screw. Normal screw ridges should have sharp edges, smooth surfaces, and no wear, dents, or deformation. If the screw ridges are blunted (edges rounded), or have obvious scratches or grooves, it indicates wear. In cases of severe wear, the screw ridge height will be significantly reduced, or even partially missing. Secondly, inspect the screw's feeding section, compression section, and extrusion section. These three areas are the most prone to wear, especially the compression and extrusion sections, which bear greater extrusion pressure and experience more severe wear. Additionally, observe the screw surface for any raw material adhering to it or charred buildup. Large amounts of difficult-to-clean buildup may indicate excessive raw material retention due to wear, leading to localized overheating and carbonization.
Determine the degree of wear through simple measurements. For small-scale fish farmers, no professional measuring instruments are needed; a tape measure or calipers can be used for basic measurements: Measure the height of the screw threads and compare it to the original dimensions in the equipment manual. If the wear exceeds 2mm, it indicates severe wear and requires immediate replacement. Measure the gap between the screw and the extrusion chamber. The normal gap should be less than 0.5mm. If the gap exceeds 1mm, it will severely affect the extrusion and extrusion effects, requiring screw replacement. For example, the original screw thread height of a certain fish feed production equipment was 8mm, but after measurement, the current height was only 5.5mm, with a wear of 2.5mm, which could no longer meet normal extrusion requirements. After replacing the screw, both equipment output and feed quality returned to normal.
