How to Make Wet Pet Food Using a Pet Food Extruder

content

Raw material pretreatment: Adapted to the wet operation requirements of a wet-floating fish feed extruder machine

Mix meat meal (chicken meal/fish meal), corn flour, multivitamins, minerals, etc., according to the formula, with animal protein accounting for 40%-50% and starch accounting for 25%-30% to ensure nutritional balance. Grind the mixed raw materials to a finer mesh (100 mesh or finer) and remove impurities through screening to avoid wear on the extruder screw and die head. Then add 10%-20% water in proportion and stir for 10-15 minutes until the material is evenly moistened, reaching a state where it "can be formed into a ball when squeezed by hand but does not crumble when lightly pressed." The moisture content should be controlled at 30%-35%, adapting to the feeding requirements of the extruder.

Extruder operation: Low-temperature, precise parameter control for cooking and shaping

Start the wet pet food making machine, preheat to 80-100℃ (low temperature preserves heat-sensitive nutrients), adjust the pressure to 2-4MPa, and set the screw speed to 280-320r/min. Pre-treated materials are fed into the extruder at a uniform speed, with moisture and temperature monitored in real time. If the material is too dry, a small amount of water is added via the extruder's automatic water-adding system; if the temperature is too high, it is finely adjusted to lower the temperature, ensuring the material is fully gelatinized and slightly expanded within the extruder to form soft, chewy pellets. The pellet size is controlled to 2-5mm using a die and cutter, suitable for pet consumption.

Post-processing: Sterilization and filling ensure quality

The extruded wet pellets are immediately fed into a low-temperature sterilizer, sterilized at 70-80℃ for 15-20 minutes. Combined with the low-temperature process of the wet dog food extruder, this maximizes the retention of probiotics, vitamins, and other active ingredients. After sterilization, the pellets are rapidly cooled to room temperature to prevent nutrient loss due to high-temperature residue. Vacuum filling is then performed to reduce air contact and prevent oxidation and spoilage. After sealing, a second random inspection is conducted to ensure the finished product meets moisture and hygiene standards. Finally, labels are affixed and the product is stored, completing the production of wet pet food.
