How Can We Double The Water Resistance Of Feed Produced By A Floating Fish Feed Mill?

Influencing Factors

There are three common problems with additives used in floating fish feed manufacturing machines. First, "incorrect substitution": many people use flour or glutinous rice flour instead of aquatic-specific binders for convenience. These common ingredients have short-lasting adhesive properties, decomposing after 1-2 minutes in water, and easily breed bacteria, leading to feed spoilage. In hot summer weather, they can even smell bad in fishponds.

Second, "improper dosage": more additives are not necessarily better. For example, excessive addition of lignin sulfonate will make the feed as hard as a rock, making it difficult for fish and shrimp to eat or digest. Insufficient dosage will not achieve the binding effect, and the feed will still fall apart.

Third, "incorrect combination": different additives have different chemical properties. For example, acidic sodium humate stabilizers will react chemically with alkaline calcium carbonate, not only rendering the additive ineffective but also producing harmful substances that endanger the health of fish and shrimp. For turtle feed, because of the low feeding frequency, the feed may stay at the bottom of the water for 1-2 days, requiring even higher resistance to spoilage from additives. Using the wrong additives can easily lead to feed mold.

Solution

The first step is to choose the right specialized additive, as different aquatic feeds require different binders. Sodium alginate is recommended for fish feed. It's a natural ingredient extracted from seaweed, safe and non-irritating. Adding 2%-3% can double the feed's water resistance without affecting fish digestion. Xanthan gum is suitable for shrimp feed. Its strong adhesiveness and good salt resistance allow it to adapt to the aquatic environment of shrimp ponds. Adding 1.5%-2% is sufficient to keep the shrimp feed from disintegrating in water for 5-8 minutes. Konjac flour is recommended for turtle feed. Its resistance to decay and its adhesiveness are superior to other additives. Adding 3%-4% allows the feed to remain intact at the bottom of the water for 8-10 minutes.

Secondly, strictly control the dosage. Always use the additives according to the recommended range on the instructions. It's best to use an electronic scale for precise weighing to avoid estimating by hand. Before use, premix the additive with a small amount of fine powder (such as cornstarch) to prevent clumping and ensure uniform composition in each pellet.

Finally, avoid incompatible combinations. For example, sodium humate should not be mixed with vitamin C or calcium carbonate, and carrageenan should not be mixed with strong acidic ingredients. A turtle farmer used to use flour as a binder, and the turtle feed had to be changed every day, otherwise it would get moldy. After switching to konjac powder, he only needed to feed the turtles twice a week. This not only saved labor, but also reduced the incidence of disease in the turtles. The small adjustment in the additives brought about great results.
