Can Fish Food Production Machines Produce Floating Fish Feed Pellets?

content

Suitable extruder types for floating feed: Primarily floating fish feed pellet extruder machines. The core selection is a twin-screw extruder, which boasts three major advantages: forced feeding, precise temperature and pressure control, and high-efficiency extrusion, enabling stable production of floating pellets. The twin-screw structure ensures uniform extrusion and full expansion of raw materials, resulting in consistent pellet porosity and a buoyancy rate exceeding 95%, making it suitable for large-scale production. Single-screw extruders can also produce floating feed, but due to gravity feeding limitations, the uniformity of expansion is slightly lower, and the buoyancy stability is not as good as twin-screw models, making them suitable for small to medium-sized aquaculture farms. Both types of equipment integrate extrusion functions, essentially being integrated "extrusion + extrusion" equipment, with the same core process as dedicated twin-screw extruders.

Unsuitable models: Simple extrusion pellet mills. Ordinary wet floating fish feed pellet making machines (without extrusion function) only use mechanical extrusion molding, lacking a high-temperature, high-pressure extrusion stage. The produced pellets have a high density (1.2-1.5 g/cm³) and can only be used as sinking feed, unable to float. The core difference between this type of equipment and extrusion presses lies in whether they possess a steam heating system and a high-pressure extrusion chamber. The former emphasizes physical forming, while the latter emphasizes physicochemical co-extrusion; their functional positioning is completely different. Some manufacturers have attempted to produce floating pellets using ordinary extruders by adjusting the formula, but the buoyancy rate can only reach about 60%, and the water resistance is poor, failing to meet actual aquaculture needs.

Key reference indicators for selection. When choosing a small floating fish feed pellet extruder machine, three key indicators should be considered based on the needs of floating feed: First, the extrusion degree control range should support 0.8-2.0 times extrusion degree adjustment to adapt to different buoyancy requirements; second, parameter accuracy should be ≤±3℃ for temperature fluctuation and ≤±0.2MPa for pressure fluctuation to ensure stable pore structure; third, capacity adaptability should be considered. Medium and large feed mills can choose twin-screw extrusion presses with an hourly output of 500kg or more, while small-scale operations can choose single-screw models with an hourly output of 100-200kg. These indicators are consistent with the selection criteria for dedicated extruders, reflecting the functional unity of the two.
