What Ingredients Can Be Processed by a Small Pet Food Making Machine?

content

Oils are key energy additives that improve feed palatability and buoyancy, and must be compatible with the extrusion temperature. Commonly used oils include fish oil, soybean oil, and rapeseed oil. Fish oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which improves fish quality and is especially suitable for aquatic feeds. Soybean oil and rapeseed oil are inexpensive and widely available, making them suitable for large-scale use. In the extrusion process of small fish feed pellet making machines, oils act as a lubricant, reducing friction between the raw material and the screw and die, improving the extrusion effect, and enhancing the gloss and palatability of the pellets. Note that high temperatures can cause some oil oxidation; therefore, it should be added during the cooling stage after extrusion, or a heat-resistant oil product should be selected, with an addition ratio of 3%-5%. For example, when producing floating feed for bass, adding 4% fish oil after extrusion significantly improves feed palatability, accelerates bass growth, and stabilizes feed buoyancy, preventing sinking due to increased density caused by oil addition.

Vitamin and mineral additives are crucial for ensuring fish health; heat-resistant types suitable for the extrusion environment must be selected. Ordinary vitamins are easily degraded at the high temperatures of 120-140℃ in extruders; therefore, coated, heat-resistant vitamins must be selected, as their coating layer protects them from heat damage. Mineral additives (such as calcium, phosphorus, and zinc) are highly stable and can be added directly. The vitamin addition ratio is 0.5%-1%, and the mineral addition ratio is 2%-3%, requiring uniform mixing in the raw materials to avoid excessively high local concentrations. For example, when producing floating carp feed, adding 0.8% coated compound vitamins and 2.5% mineral premix, after extrusion using fish feed production equipment, results in a vitamin retention rate of over 85%, meeting the various nutritional needs of carp growth and reducing disease incidence.

Mold inhibitors and antioxidants are key additives for extending feed shelf life, suitable for long-term storage requirements. Floating fish pellets are rich in starch and protein, making them prone to moisture absorption and mold growth. Adding antifungal agents (such as propionic acid and its salts) at a concentration of 0.1%-0.3% can inhibit mold growth; antioxidants (such as ethoxyquinoline) can prevent oil oxidation and spoilage at a concentration of 0.01%-0.05%. These additives are highly stable and can be added directly during the raw material mixing stage, maintaining their activity even after extrusion using automated fish food making equipment. For example, floating feed produced by small-scale fish farmers needs to be stored for 1-2 months. Adding 0.2% calcium propionate and 0.03% ethoxyquinoline allows the feed to remain mold-free for 2 months under dry and ventilated conditions, ensuring stable quality and avoiding raw material waste.
