Automatic Fish Food Making Equipment Usage Tips You Need To Know: Raw Material Matching & Cost Saving

Raw material formulation matching techniques: The extrusion function of small fish feed pellet extruders relies on the starch in the raw materials. The starch content needs to be controlled between 25% and 40%. Too low a content will lead to insufficient extrusion and poor pellet formation; too high a content will affect the protein content of the feed. Therefore, it is necessary to reasonably combine grains (corn, oats, rice, high in starch) and protein raw materials (fish meal, soybean meal, meat meal). For example, when raising grass carp, a formula of 35% corn, 25% soybean meal, 20% fish meal, 15% vegetables, and 5% minerals, with a starch content of 35%, can ensure the extrusion effect while meeting the nutritional needs of grass carp. At the same time, a small amount of oil (3%-5%) can be added appropriately to improve the palatability of the feed and reduce friction between the raw materials and the equipment, protecting the screw and die head. It should be noted that stones, metal, and other impurities should not be added to the raw materials to avoid damaging equipment parts.

Low-cost raw material substitution techniques: While ensuring the nutritional value of the feed, inexpensive raw materials can be used to replace some expensive raw materials to reduce costs. For example, replacing imported fishmeal with local miscellaneous fishmeal, and partially replacing corn with peas or sweet potatoes, can reduce raw material procurement costs and is compatible with the extrusion processing of floating fish feed making machines. It is important to note that the particle size and moisture content of the substitute raw materials must meet the equipment requirements, and small-batch trials are necessary to verify the extrusion effect and fish feeding behavior. For instance, when replacing 20% of corn with peas, the processing temperature needs to be appropriately increased by 5-10℃ to compensate for the high gelatinization temperature of pea starch and ensure sufficient extrusion. In addition, agricultural by-products (such as wheat bran and rice husk powder) can be used, but the proportion must be controlled (not exceeding 15%) to avoid affecting feed nutrition and extrusion effect.

Techniques for improving raw material utilization: Precisely control the parameters of the small fish feed pellet making machine to avoid raw material waste due to over- or under-extrusion. Over-extrusion makes the pellets brittle, increasing the waste rate; under-extrusion reduces feed digestibility and absorption, indirectly increasing farming costs. By optimizing temperature, pressure, and speed parameters, ensure that the feed maturation degree reaches over 85% and the digestibility and absorption rate reaches over 80%. Meanwhile, it is important to rationally control the processing volume, producing only what is needed based on the scale of the farm, to avoid nutrient loss or mold growth due to long-term storage of feed. For example, small-scale farms can choose small pellet mills with a capacity of 5-10 kg/h, producing enough feed for 1-2 weeks at a time to ensure feed freshness and improve raw material utilization. In addition, the processed feed scraps can be re-crushed and mixed with raw materials for further processing to reduce waste.
