Although extruded feed has many advantages in feeding and management, there are still some shortcomings. For example, during the extrusion granulation process, due to the high temperature of 120~150℃, the protein spatial structure of the enzyme will change, and most of the enzymes will lose their activity. In addition, the high temperature environment will also promote the Maillard reaction of reducing sugars and free amino acids, thereby reducing the utilization rate of protein. At the same time, high temperature leads to enzyme inactivation, high energy consumption and high cost, but these shortcomings can usually be compensated to a certain extent by increasing feed remuneration.
Agricultural by-products such as soybean meal, rapeseed meal, straw, and bran are often used as raw materials for livestock and poultry feed. Although these raw materials are rich in nutrients, their utilization efficiency is low when fed directly, and they may contain microorganisms and insect eggs, which affect the health of livestock. The puffing process can improve the utilization rate of feed nutrients by livestock and poultry. For example, corn straw can be processed by combining puffing and fermentation to transform it from low-quality roughage into high-quality biological feed, improving its nutritional value and digestibility.
