How to optimize the capacity of an extruded pellet production line?

The bottleneck in the production capacity of extruded pellet production lines (such as floating fish feed and extruded pet food) often lies in the "unstable extrusion effect"-some pellets are over-expanded and become brittle, while others are not extruded and sink to the bottom, resulting in a high rework rate and wasted raw materials. In fact, the core of the extrusion line is "high temperature and high pressure gas production." As long as the temperature is precisely controlled and the screw is adapted, both production capacity and yield rate can be improved.

Precise temperature control

Segmented Temperature Control: Adjusted according to the starch content of the raw materials

For producing high-starch raw materials (such as corn-based pet food): barrel temperature 140-150℃ (high temperature allows for full gas production of starch, resulting in more fluffy pellets); For producing high-protein raw materials (such as fishmeal-based floating fish feed): temperature 120-130℃ (avoids excessive protein denaturation). An intelligent temperature control system (real-time display of temperature for each segment) reduces temperature fluctuations from ±10℃ to ±3℃, increasing the extrusion pass rate from 80% to 95%.

Cooling Temperature Control: Prevents softening after extrusion

The extruded pellet exit temperature is 60-70℃. A cold air cooler (wind speed adjusted to 3-5 m/s) quickly cools it to room temperature (around 25℃) to prevent the pellets from softening and clumping. After cooling optimization, the pellet breakage rate decreased from 8% to 3%, allowing for the packaging of an additional 0.3 tons of qualified feed per hour.

Replace parts according to production capacity requirements.

Increase Production Capacity: Increase Compression Section Length

To increase daily production from 8 tons to 10 tons, the screw compression section length was increased from 20cm to 25cm (increasing raw material compression time and improving gas production efficiency). Simultaneously, a larger diameter feed inlet was installed (from 15cm to 20cm), increasing the feed rate from 0.5 tons/hour to 0.6 tons/hour, resulting in a 25% increase in production capacity.

Maintain Quality: Adjust Shear Tooth Density

For producing brittle pet food, the shear tooth density was increased (5 teeth per 10cm to enhance shearing force and produce more fluffy pellets). For producing foam-resistant floating fish feed, the shear teeth were spaced out (3 teeth per 10cm to prevent excessive shearing and loss of stickiness). After proper screw assembly, the pellet compliance rate increased by 18%.
