How To Modify The Process Of An Aquatic Floating Feed Pellet Production Line?

Improvement methods

Method 1: Adjusting the ingredient ratio to be both "softer" and "lighter." Previously, too much corn flour was added (over 50%), making the particles heavy and prone to sinking. Now, the corn flour is reduced to 30%, replaced with 20% wheat bran and 10% rice bran. Wheat bran and rice bran have small pores that trap air after puffing, making the particles less dense than water, allowing them to float within 10 seconds of being dropped into water. Simultaneously, 5% wheat flour is added; its gluten content makes the particles even firmer, preventing them from falling apart even after soaking for 3 hours.

Method 2: Lowering the temperature and increasing the pressure of the floating fish feed extruder. The original puffing temperature of 160℃ was too high, causing excessive gelatinization and increased weight. Now, it's lowered to 130-140℃; the pressure is increased from 5MPa to 7MPa. During extrusion, the air in the material is compressed into small bubbles. After cooling, these bubbles solidify, making the particles like "mini sponges," doubling their buoyancy. The screw speed is also reduced from 300 rpm to 200 rpm, giving the material sufficient time for extrusion and shaping.

Method 3: Add a "secondary drying" step. Freshly extruded fish feed pellets have a high moisture content (over 20%), which will cause them to sink if left for too long. Adding a low-temperature dryer after the cooling machine and drying at 60°C for 15 minutes will reduce the moisture content to below 12%, making the pellets lighter and extending the shelf life from 15 days to 30 days.

Precautions

① Avoid using old bran: Old bran tends to clump, causing uneven air bubbles in the pellets, with some floating and some sinking. When buying bran, choose new, light-colored bran without any odor, and sift it before use to remove coarse stems.

② Adjust temperature and pressure simultaneously: Lowering the temperature without increasing the pressure will result in loose pellets; increasing the pressure without lowering the temperature will harden the pellets. Always adjust according to the ratio of "temperature decrease of 10℃, pressure increase of 1MPa". Beginners can start with a small-batch trial production using a floating fish food extruder machine.

③ Avoid exceeding the secondary drying temperature: Temperatures exceeding 70℃ will break the air bubbles in the pellets, causing them to sink. During drying, monitor the hygrometer; stop when the moisture content drops to 12%, or when the pellets feel dry to the touch but not rough.
