How To Optimize The Production Process Of Floating Pet Food?

Improvement methods
Method 1: Adjusting the consistency of the raw materials to soften the kibble's texture. Previously, using only fine powder resulted in hard kibble. Now, a 70% fine powder + 30% coarse powder ratio is used-fine powder (cornmeal, wheat flour) ensures proper shaping, while coarse powder (chopped oats, minced meat) creates gaps within the kibble, making it easier to chew. Large breed dog food includes 5% cartilage meal, which provides calcium and adds some chewiness for better teeth cleaning.
Method 2: Adding a "low-temperature preservation" step after extrusion in a pet feed extruder. The meat aroma in pet food is volatile. Previously, simply cooling and bagging didn't retain the aroma. Now, a low-temperature preservation machine (blowing at 40℃ for 10 minutes) is added after the cooling machine to quickly lock in the aroma substances on the kibble's surface. Vacuum packaging then ensures the meat aroma is immediately noticeable upon opening the bag, making it more appealing to cats and dogs.
Method 3: Adjusting the cutting method to prevent crumbs. The original cutter was fixed, resulting in uneven cuts and easy chipping. After switching to a rotary cutter, the rotation speed is synchronized with the screw speed (200 rpm for the screw and 400 rpm for the cutter), resulting in smooth cuts. It doesn't chip when shaken in your hand, and you don't need to sweep your floor every day.
Precautions
① Pet feed extruder should not be too coarse: Oatmeal particles larger than 1 mm will make the feed loose. It should be ground into a 0.5 mm coarse powder to maintain texture without affecting its shape.
② Do not use too high a temperature for preservation: Temperatures above 50℃ will destroy the meat's aroma. 40℃ is ideal. After preservation, immediately bag the food and do not expose it to air for more than 30 minutes, otherwise the aroma will dissipate.
③ Avoid adding industrial flavorings: Use natural meat meal and fish paste for flavoring. Industrial flavorings can make pets picky eaters and may irritate their stomachs. The natural aroma of the raw materials is the safest.
