The Core Cause Of Insufficient Ripening in Animal Feed Extruder Line
Leave a message
reason
1. Extrusion Stage: Low temperature inside the extruder chamber (<110℃), insufficient extrusion pressure (<3MPa), and insufficient residence time of the material in the extrusion chamber (<20 seconds). High temperature and high pressure are the core conditions for complete starch gelatinization during extrusion. Low temperature or insufficient pressure leads to incomplete starch gelatinization; short residence time means the material is not fully heated and compressed, resulting in low gelatinization.
2.Raw Material Stage: Low starch content in the raw materials (e.g., fish meal or meat and bone meal exceeding 40%) and coarse particle size (<60 mesh). Low starch content directly leads to insufficient gelatinizable material; coarse particle size makes it difficult to break down the fibers surrounding the starch granules, preventing steam and heat penetration and hindering gelatinization.
3. Equipment Parameter Settings: Extruder screw pitch too large (>20mm), and ring die compression ratio too small (<3:1). A large screw pitch results in a high material speed and short residence time during screw propulsion; a small compression ratio makes it difficult to effectively increase the pressure inside the expansion chamber, making it difficult to form a high-temperature and high-pressure environment, which affects the maturation process.

Solution
1. Adjustments to the puffing process:
Increase the temperature and pressure within the puffing chamber: By reducing the screw speed (e.g., from 450 r/min to 350 r/min, extending the residence time to 25-30 seconds), or reducing the ring die diameter (e.g., from 5 mm to 4 mm, increasing extrusion resistance), increase the puffing temperature to 120-130℃ and the pressure to 3.5-4 MPa;
Inspect the puffer heating jacket (if it is an electric heating type) to ensure it is functioning properly and that there are no areas where heating is not being applied. Replace the heating element if necessary.
2. Raw Material Control:
Adjusting Raw Material Formula: If the starch content is too low, appropriately increase the proportion of starchy raw materials such as corn and wheat (e.g., from 30% to 40%) to ensure a starch content ≥40%;
Refining Raw Material Particle Size: Replace the pulverizer screen (from 60 mesh to 80 mesh) to ensure a raw material throughput ≥95% (i.e., more than 95% of particles can pass through an 80 mesh screen), breaking down the outer fiber layer of starch granules for easier maturation.
3. Equipment Parameter Correction:
If the screw pitch is too large, replace it with a screw with a smaller pitch (e.g., from 20mm to 16mm) to slow down the material feed speed and extend the residence time;
