How to judge the lack of lubrication of feed pellet machine by abnormal feed pellet quality

Insufficient lubrication can cause core components of a pellet mill, such as the rollers and die, to rotate poorly or experience unstable pressure, thus affecting pellet quality. Therefore, abnormal changes in pellet appearance and hardness can serve as indirect indicators of insufficient lubrication.

Observe three key signs of pellet quality abnormalities: First, pellet surfaces are rough and have visible cracks. Under normal lubrication, the rollers and die work together smoothly, resulting in smooth pellet surfaces. Insufficient lubrication increases roller resistance, leading to uneven extrusion and the appearance of surface cracks. Second, pellet hardness fluctuates significantly, with some pellets being too soft and easily broken (hardness <2 kg/cm²) and others too hard (hardness >8 kg/cm²). This is because insufficient lubrication causes unstable roller pressure, preventing uniform extrusion. Third, pellet length is uneven, with a significant amount of debris (fragmentation rate >10%). This is caused by insufficient lubrication of the roller bearings, resulting in fluctuating speeds and misalignment between the cutter blade and roller, leading to pellet length deviations exceeding ±2 mm. Other factors, such as raw material moisture (normally 15-18%) and die wear, should also be eliminated. If these factors are not abnormal, the quality issue can be attributed to insufficient lubrication.

When pellet quality exhibits the aforementioned abnormalities, do not simply adjust the raw materials or ring die. Prioritize checking the lubrication system to ensure smooth operation of components before optimizing production parameters. This can prevent lubrication issues from masking other problems and causing continued deterioration in pellet quality.
